$460 Million Requested for Pakistan: Let's Give It

Editorial, The Washington Post | August 17, 2010

More than 20 million people in Pakistan are now homeless as a consequence of the devastating flooding. ++ A dearth of clean drinking water will likely cause the death toll of 1,500 to rise. ++ The West must use this opportunity to show solidarity with the Pakistanis and improve its image in this volatile region. ++ A generous American response is necessary in order to keep Pakistan on its side in the international war on terror. ++ More importantly, a generous response is required because it is the right thing to do.

I like this comment! What's this?
I would hope that we are not giving aid to butter up the Pakistanis or simply to gain some ground there for our own purposes. This is a major tragedy that should receive as much assistance as possible with assistance to a ravaged area as the only concern.
