A Chastened Obama Faces the World

Obama's domestic political agenda is increasingly hamstrung by Republicans' control of the House and their veto power in the Senate. ++ Therefore, the temptation will grow to seek presidential achievements abroad. ++ However, Republicans may well wield influence on this front as well. ++ Anti-Beijing sentiment featured prominently in GOP campaign ads, as did a more hawkish pro-Israel, anti-Iran outlook which is at odds with current policy. ++ Add to this, deeply opposed views on how to fix the economy, and an interesting two years await.
