Atomic Energy Will Never be a Green Panacea

Ulrich Beck, The Guardian | July 18, 2008

Because of climate change and the oil crisis, political leaders are reinforcing nuclear power. ++ Gordon Brown called for "a renaissance of nuclear power" in a "post-oil economy." ++ Nonetheless, even our language fails when we try to name the dangers we have introduced through the use of nuclear power. ++ Political leaders and scientists are engaged in a highly ambivalent game. ++ The threat of nuclear power cannot be calculated perfectly and we are therefore witnessing a “clash of risk cultures.”
