When G8 leaders discuss climate change this week, they need the same spirit of doing “whatever is necessary” they brought to the economic crisis. ++ Major emissions reductions are possible, but developed countries must implement crucial policies now. ++ Leaders should adopt proven policies: renewable energy standards (like feed-in tariffs or portfolio standards); industry efficiency measures; building codes; vehicle standards; fuel carbon content standards; appliance standards; and reduced deforestation.
