Germany is Now the America of Europe: Hated

Jan Fleischhauer, Der Spiegel | February 28, 2012

Why not exclude ethnic origins from reporting on the Eurocrisis? ++ Hardly a day goes by in Greece without Chancellor Angela Merkel being depicted in a Nazi uniform. ++ Germany will not see a good deal of the €130 billion it will give to the bailout fund again but is being treated like it is invading Europe again. ++ Germany is now the America of Europe, hated "because it is too successful, too self-confident and too strong." ++ It cannot buy it's neighbors' sympathies anymore, although this is a policy it followed for decades.

I like this comment! What's this?
The problem of the Europeans is not any kind of jealousy but the continuous efforts of the German government to rule Europe. Nations like Greeks are hardly surviving today because of their extremely low salaries and pensions, unemployment and very high taxies and yet keep listening they are the lazy ones who do nothing. Apart from this, Second World War is not so far;this is why we see Angela Merkel in Nazi Uniforms. I mean that Germany, acting expansively, brings up memories of the two World Wars and frightens nations of Europe about its real goals. Ι do not mean that Germany plans another war, just that its movements bring up memories of its behaviour in the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, which is easy for a country with such a past. The press is always using such methods - I am talking about the Nazi uniforms - the way the German press is using propaganda by telling the German people they pay for the Greeks, while the Greeks will pay much more money back because of the interest rates. A big fear which concerns the Europeans is that Germans are trying to "buy" their countries instead of their sympathy. In addition to this, Germans forget that countries like Greece are internationally humiliated today the way Germany was humiliated many years ago. After all, Germany has always been a powerful country, so the present situation is not something all of a sudden, which could make one feel jealous.
