Inefficient Water Use Will Leave us High and Dry

Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, former CEO of Nestle | June 16, 2008

Rising demand for foodstuffs and the biofuel craze are causing an agricultural crisis requiring a significant increase in productivity. ++ Yet for this to succeed, the reasonable and efficient use of water needs to be urgently implemented: "Water is being wasted and misused because few people are even aware of its worth." ++ Competitive pricing should be introduced so that municipal water distribution can continue. ++ Water for basic needs should still be free, but its current extravagant use should not be subsidized.
