Israel Shows Suspicion of Obama

Gideon Rachman, Financial Times | February 10, 2009

Israel is going to the polls today yet there is little feeling that the election will be a watershed on Israel’s Gaza policy. ++ The outcome of the election will most probably result in the formation of a right of center, status quo government. ++ If the new US president is more moderate in his Arab-Israeli policy he can show Israel its real options: “two states; one state without a Jewish majority; or an undemocratic state, with Israel as a permanent occupying power over a voteless, violent and anarchic Palestine.”
