NATO's Collateral Damage
Editorial, The New York Times | March 30, 2012
The Alliance must ensure complete transparency in its military operations. ++ Last August, NATO bombs killed around 34 Libyan civilians in the small village of Majer. ++ NATO however has refused to fully investigate exactly what happened in Majer and other places. ++ In an unacceptable response, NATO rejected cooperating with an expert panel appointed by the UN Human Rights Council. ++ Although NATO tries to avoid civilian casualties, the Alliance should acknowledge mistakes and investigate them in order to avoid future accidents.
