Nuclear Weapons Must Be Tested

Jon Kyl, The Wall Street Journal | October 22, 2009

President Obama's intention of ratifying the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty is "a profound mistake, as a ban on testing nuclear weapons would jeopardize American national security." ++ The reliability of US nuclear weapons cannot be guaranteed without testing them ++ As the world has so far been unable to enforce the NPT, there is little reason to believe that it would be effective in enforcing the CTBT. ++ The focus should be on preventing nuclear weapons from falling into the hands of rogue states, rather than on "a flawed, irrelevant test ban treaty."
