Obama: From Iraq to Afghanistan

Barak Obama, US Sen. & presumptive Dem. nominee | July 15, 2008

Obama highlights the differences between McCain and him on Iraq. ++ He still intends to redeploy the combat brigades in such a way that they could be removed from Iraq in 16 months: "That would be the summer of 2010 - two years from now." ++ After this redeployment, a residual force would still perform limited missions in Iraq such as the training of Iraqi security forces. ++ Afghanistan and Pakistan are at the center of Obama's new strategy to fight al-Qaeda. ++ In his view, Iraq has in fact never been the central front in the war on terrorism.
