On the Doorstep for 50 Years

This summer will mark 50 years since Turkey first asked to join the EU, a feat it still cannot achieve. ++ Despite this “Turkey's leaders say they remain committed to their bid, however long it takes” even though public support is quickly falling away. ++ The EU should make an earnest commitment to Turkey joining eventually as not to continue to undermine the complex reform process that Ankara is undertaking. ++ “EU leaders should start by challenging popular prejudice” that has restricted Turkey for half a century.
