India’s reliance on Russia for defense equipment is largely ineffective and increasingly dangerous. ++ The entire Russian fleet of MiG-29 is seen to suffer structural defects and adds to the fact that “Russia’s defense manufacturing base is facing shortfalls in capabilities and capacities.” ++ This effects India in terms of missed deadlines, greater expense and harms India’s plans to upgrade its military technology. ++ Russia’s failure and India’s higher defense budget has caused Israel, Europe, and the US to compete for influence.

One does hope that it begins to catch up with China soon enough. It is always nice to have the big cars. But it is also nicer to have bigger roads to run them upon, without running over sleeping pedestrians, for example!
