Renewing the Oldest Atlantic Alliance

Gregor Peter Schmitz, Der Spiegel | April 2, 2010

French President Nicolas Sarkozy made it clear in 2007 that he was "A friend of America," as he sought to repair damage to a transatlantic relationship that has deteriorated as a result of the Iraq war. ++ More recently, Sarkozy has aggressively courted Obama's favor but thus far has failed to establish a close working relationship with the American President. ++ "Obama hasn't seemed to take Sarkozy seriously. When he has, he has often reacted with irritation towards the French president's brisk leadership style."
