When Climate Change Takes Over
Bjorn Lomborg, The Wall Street Journal | December 8, 2009
Although climate activists have been successful at attracting the world's attention to the receding ice on Mount Kilimanjaro, with an influx of tourists as a direct result, they fail to bring attention to the people of Tanzania. ++ Although scientists question whether the receding ice is a result of global warming, it is a fact that a large proportion of the population surrounding the famous mountain is affected by HIV/AIDS. ++ As one HIV-victim adequately put it, "there is no need for ice on the mountain if there is no people around because of HIV/AIDS."
