Our open think tank has continued to grow in numbers and influence. As of right now, Atlantic Community has over 1,800 followers on Twitter. Atlantic-community.org's followers not only include students and young professionals, but also experts, politicians, and institutions.
For example, we are followed on Twitter by German politicians such as Dr. Eva Högl, a member of the German Parliament from the Social Democrats and Volker Beck, MP and Green Party whip. We are also followed by Prof. Anthony Clark Arend, Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and Dr. Andreas Nick, a board member of AICGS.
Institutions that follow us include, among others: the Council on Foreign Relations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Atlantic Council, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Center for a New American Security, and the European Council on Foreign Relations.
Not all of these people (and obviously the institutions) are part of the over 7,000 registered members of atlantic-community.org. Of course, we welcome and encourage them to join as well. The larger point however is that we reach a larger audience when social media such as Twitter (and also Facebook) are taken into account.
We are able to promote our own content. At the same, we use Twitter to stay up-to-date on the latest news while also interacting with other users and providing interesting content from other sources.
Social media helps us fulfill our mission of promoting your ideas and allows us to project an even louder voice for the community. With this in mind, in addition to joining atlantic-community.org for free and contributing articles and comments, we urge you to engage with us on Twitter as well as Facebook.
We are always looking for new ideas: How do you use social media? And what tips do you have for not only increasing social media outreach but also creating a more engaged community? Let us know in the comments!
