The three Atlantic Memos from the "Your Ideas, Your NATO" competition are chock-full of interesting and provocative policy recommendations, and many publications are taking notice. Memo 39, "Partners in Democracy, Partners in Security: NATO and the Arab Spring", was recently spotlighted on the front page of the openDemocracy portal and generated two response articles and a rebuttal from one of the writers of the memo.
Memo 39 was also featured on popular blogs The Heptagon Post and The Mediterranean Eye. In conjunction with the NATO Summit, Diplomatic Courier posted Memo 38, "One NATO: Strengthening Unity Through Transparency and Engagement". Additionally, the "Your Ideas, Your NATO" event has been covered by the Student Operated Press and The Pryer.
Our great media partners at The Atlantic Council of Canada, International Relations and Security Network (ISN), Future Challenges, Future Foreign Policy, The Pryer, and Roosevelt Campus Network are also republishing each of the competition memos on their pages, ensuring that these great policy recommendations reach an even wider audience.
The competition itself has built up an extensive media résumé since launching in January. Original articles about the competition were published by PolicyMic and the blog New Eastern Europe and the initial call for applications was circulated on well-followed Twitter feeds from the Robert Bosch Foundation, the Atlantic Council US, and NATO Source, among others. The competition was also the "Most Viewed" on the website StudentCompetitions.com during the week of the first deadline.
Most recently, the culminating policy debate in Berlin was covered by Initiative junger Transatlantiker and the magazine Bundeswehr Aktuell.
In addition, the press release from Atlantic Community appeared on the news site Scoop Independent News, where it was picked up by other news aggregators like World News. Our media partners E-IR, New Eastern Europe, Future Foreign Policy, and Future Challenges also featured the competition on their front pages for multiple weeks.
"Your Ideas, Your NATO" also received a great deal of feedback from policy makers. Check out the responses from US Ambassador to Germany Philip Murphy, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General Stefanie Babst, and other decision makers, including the Canadian Defense Minister.
