Future Euro Council President Must Be Low Key
Timothy Kirkhope, Leader of Conservatives in the EP | October 29, 2009
The vagueness surrounding the position of President of the European Council risks putting "far too much authority into the hand of one individual." ++ The President should be someone able to focus on details, and broker deals which can establish a consensus. ++ Tony Blair is known for looking at the big picture and his willingness to divide opinion to go in his chosen direction. ++ The EU should "steer away from a man who would seek to build up his role on the world stage, rather than supporting the work of the leaders of member states."
