Kashmir is Key to Afghanistan

Mustafa Qadri, The Australian | May 26, 2010

Largely forgotten by the world community, the Kashmir conflict simmers on. However, as long as Pakistan and India do not reach an agreement on Kashmir, all efforts in Afghanistan will come to naught. ++ Pakistani access to water controlled by India presents a further obstacle to peace, while uncertainty over who rules Pakistan makes it difficult for India to negotiate with Islamabad. ++ “The world can ill afford two nuclear armed nations destabilising each other.” ++ The US needs to pressure India to accept third-party negotiations.
