Nice Guy Finishing Last

Gabor Steingart, Der Spiegel (translated) | November 24, 2009

Obama rode to power with the promise of improved diplomacy to counter eight years of Bush-style international relations. ++ However, the recent trip throughout Asia has revealed the limits of the new administration's approach. ++ No real concessions were made by Beijing, and even old friends in Israel have not heeded the word of the American President. ++ Obama is losing leverage. ++ Perhaps the public's expectations were too high, but it is clear that a tougher foreign policy will soon be coming out of Washington.

I like this comment! What's this?
Was it the public's expectations or the expectations of the Obama administration? I say it is a bit of both, as Obama promised less aggressive foreign policy but that has not really swayed on the world stage.
