The US Cannot Manage the Hemisphere Anymore

Carlo Dade, Canadian Foundation for the Americas | August 6, 2008

There are signs that, due to lack of resources and interest, the US is not able to “micromanage the hemisphere” anymore and regional powers such as for instance Brazil are emerging and filling the power vacuum. ++ Interestingly, Canada has more in common with Brazil and the other countries of Latin America than with the US, even if it is aware of the dangers which the rise of the “new left” poses. ++ To Latin American countries Canada is an alternative to the US, and it could become a friendly and supportive ally.
